The first years

In 1978, Micheline and Benoît Bilodeau answered the call and purchased a plot of land in Saint-Pierre on Île d’Orléans with the goal of growing apples—undoubtedly Quebecers’ favorite fruit.

With the assistance of their daughter Josée and son Claude, they plant a grove of dwarf and semi-dwarf apple trees in the same year (1980). The orchard would cover six hectares and number more than three thousand trees producing at least ten varieties of apples.

Since 1985, in the fall season, the majority of the apple yield is sold using the U-pick method.

A big turn

In 1990, a major shift began, and a large building was constructed to process apples and produce cider. Here we find the kitchen, the press room, the fermentation room, the refrigerated room and the sales kiosk. Following this construction, an apple pressing service is offered to the pomologists of Orleans Island.

In the fall of 1995, the company broke new ground by establishing the first cidery on Île d’Orléans. In 1997 the marketing of ciders and cider vinegar would begin. Since this time, the family has made much progress and now offers a large variety of ciders: ice ciders and derivatives of which they hold great pride.

A New Step

Following the pandemic, the winery was completely rebuilt and reopened in the spring of 2023. Visible to visitors from the outside, it marks a new chapter in the company’s history.

In June 2024, the Bilodeau family began producing spirits. Their first gin, made entirely from apples and available in three sizes, is now on the market. True to its spirit of innovation, the company is already working on new projects that will expand its spirits lineup in the coming years.

ABOUT US

Hard work

Over the years, he and his spouse develop new products Apple must, jellies, mustards, maple products and other ciders quickly gain public favor and receive gold and silver medals.

These novelties have brought about better exposure and profits to the family enterprise, which expands year after year.

It is with great determination and enthusiasm that Claude and Sandra arrive at work each morning. Their sincere wish is that their three children will, in turn, have a love of the land and that they also will innovate as their parents and grandparents have done and still do today. This is a passion they hope will be shared generation after generation.

No doubt they will communicate their enthusiasm to you and that you will leave with the taste of earth in mind and a tasty taste of apple on the palate.

CIDRERIE VERGER BILODEAU

Cider production

The Cidrerie Verger Bilodeau never stops innovating in order to offer you high quality products. Being the first cider house created on the Island of Orleans, our goal is to offer you a wide variety of ciders as well as ice ciders.

La cueillette

Apple picking

The apples used for our ciders are picked from our orchards on Île d'Orléans. Ces dernières sont sélectionnées avec soin par notre équipe.

Le pressage

Filtering

The harvested apples are pressed in order to obtain a first quality and pure juice.

In order to get to the cider, the liquid must be filtered. In addition, this filtered liquid ensures impeccable product quality.

La fermentation

Fermentation

The pressed apple juice is then transferred to the cold fermentation room to maximize the flavors.

L'embouteillage

Bottling

Finally, the cider is bottled in our bottles corresponding to their effigy. It is then sold in stores, newsstands and online.
